Country Star Singer, Actor, Guitarist Jerry Reed, the famous Good Ol’ Boy from car chase movies like “Smokey and the Bandit,” has died of complications from emphysema at 71.
Reed had a string of hits in the 1970s and early 1980s, that included “Amos Moses,” “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” “East Bound and Down,” “She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)” and “The Bird.”

In the mid-1970s, he starred in movies such as “Smokey and the Bandit” with Burt Reynolds, usually as a good ol’ boy. But he was an ornery heavy in “Gator,” directed by Reynolds, and a hateful coach in 1998’s “The Waterboy,” starring Adam Sandler.
Reed and Kris Kristofferson paved the way for Nashville music personalities to make inroads into films. Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers (TV movies) followed their lead.
Most people don’t know that Jerry was actually a Smokin HotGuitarist, (he preferred Gibson Les Paul’s) with a distinctive style and influenced a lot of country and rock and roll players.
Since her last album “Sucked The Hog” anyway, Jessica Simpson has decided to go “Hog Wild” and Go Country. Maybe hanging with Dallas Cowboys boyfriend Tony Romo is rubbing off on her.
Simpson told Billboard Magazine: “I am a country girl,” she says. “I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right.”
She went on to say: “I think there is a strength in female country artists,” Simpson adds, citing Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as some of her inspirations. She forgot (Dolly Parton)
Shock Jock Howard Stern ripps Country Singer Dolly Parton in a recent parody, on his the satellite radio show. Needless to say she is Pissed and threatened to “Sue The Bastard”!
Stern takes Parton quotes, and mixes them up to make it sound as if the singer were spewing offensive and racist remarks. In a post on her official website, Parton is quoted as saying she has “never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated” in her life, and even hints and at potentially suing the shock jock.
