Lil Wayne, who hip-hop’s biggest stars used to Talk Trash about — is now the envy of all his peers. Weezy’s biggest enemies are now publicly recognizing how great a feat it was for the New Orleans native to move over a million units of his Tha Carter III in the first week.
“Congrats to my homie, Wayne,” saysKanye West, who produced on the album, posted on his blog Tuesday. “I’m happy to know this guy! Bow in the presence of a true living legend in hip-hop. Lil Wayne The God!“On Thursday (June 19), while calling in to New York radio station Hot 97, 50 Cent called Tha Carter III’s debut “amazing.”In Atlanta, Ludacris told MTV News that Wayne’s success was hard-earned. “Wayne’s been in the game a long time,” said ‘Cris, while sitting in the studio with DJ Drama. “I’ve done records with him. Apart from everything else that’s going on, it’s well-deserved. Wayne, congratulations. You worked hard for that’s shit, and you deserve it.”
Kanye West met an unruly crowd when he performed this weekend at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN. Fans were upset that the rapper showed up over two hours late to his set, and didn’t start his performance until 4:30am, Sunday morning. Originally, West requested a time slot change from 8:30pm to 2:45am because he wanted to make the most of his glow-in-the-dark stage props.
Everything went to hell when Pearl Jam, a favorite at this year’s festival, played almost an hour longer than they were scheduled. After they were done, it took roadies over an hour to put up Kanye’s props. Angry fans started throwing glow sticks at the stage.
When West finally took the stage at 4:30am, many of the partygoers had gone back to their tents. The remainder greeted him with chants of “Kanye sucks“. He made no apology for his tardiness and cut his set short. The chants even continued throughout performances made by other artists on Sunday afternoon.
So much for “The Good Life“, Kanye. Somehow, I think you’ll have a little trouble selling out in Tennessee again.
